Summary
TYE7 encodes an E-box-binding zipper-type transcription factor of the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) family that recognizes 5'-CACGTGA-3' motifs. Tye7p forms a homodimer and activates the expression of glycolytic genes such as ENO1 and ENO2, as well as GCR1, which encodes a transcriptional activator of glycolytic genes. Tye7p also binds Ty1 retrotransposon DNA and regulates Ty1 sense and antisense transcription in response to adenylic nucleotide reduction. Tye7p has also been implicated in the control of the cell cycle, and of sulfur metabolism.
